The NFT project that attracted the most attention this week is most likely that of the artist Shl0ms, who blew up a Lamborghini to protest against the greed the artist believes is prevalent in the crypto market. The charred remains of the luxury sports car will be sold as 888 NFTs, with the promise that the majority of proceeds will be used to fund public art installations.
Sotheby’s announced their plans to host their first ever NFT auction in Saudi Arabia. The region has seen an incredible interest in the new digital asset, with 23,700 NFTs being sold in the art segment since April last year. Sotheby’s is one of the most well-known fine art companies in the world, and have embraced the NFT market, including setting up a digital replica of its New Bond Street Headquarters in Decentraland.
Beetlejuice — a well-known pop culture icon — is trending in the NFT world, with his NFT surpassing Superman Comic #1, Tom Brady Autographed Rookie Card and Michael Jackson’s Stage-Worn Glove as the most-viewed collectible on the Goldin auction platform — despite “only” selling for $15,000. Collectibles have been popular in the NFT market, being one of the most traded market segments on the OpenSea platform.
Finally, Etherscan recently released the blockchain explorer’s native NFT viewing functionality, indicating rampant demand for NFT market analytics.
